Today's Cherished Episode: Pilot (1x0)
Original Air Date: September 10, 1993
Written By: Chris Carter
Directed By: Robert Mandel

Some things about the Pilot that you probably knew but might have forgotten; here's a little "Pilot Poop":

-- The very first 11:21 appears as the time on Scully's clock at the end of the episode. 11/21/48 is the birthday of Chris Carter's wife, Dori Pierson.

-- Chris Carter's famous birthdate also appears for the first time in the Pilot, but not as 10/13. The time of the autopsy that Scully performs is 10:56 (Carter's birthday is 10/13/56).

-- We heard "I made this" for the first time. The words spoken over the Ten Thirteen company name are spoken by Nathan Couturier, son of the supervising sound editor, Thierry Couturier.

-- The pilot took place in Bellfleur, Oregon; Chris Carter was born in Bellflower, California.

-- We heard the names Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for the first time in the Pilot. Mulder is Chris Carter's mother's maiden name; and of course, Scully is named for famed Dodgers' announcer Vin Scully. One of Chris Carter's childhood friends was named "Fox"; he always liked it, so his friend was forever immortalized in the guise of Fox Mulder. Chris Carter's father's name is William (also David Duchovny's middle name) which might explain why there would eventually be so many "William's" running around the X-Files (Scully's father was named William, Mulder's father was named William, Mulder's middle name was William, Scully had a brother named William and M&S would ultimately have a baby named William). Chris Carter's mother's name is Catherine (hence, Scully's middle name of Katherine).

-- We see Mulder munching on sunflower seeds for the first time and we see Scully wearing her cross necklace for the first time in the Pilot.

-- Many of the nameplates on the desks in the FBI bullpen bear the names of X-Files crew members.
