The Last Scene

Summary: A vision of the last scene between Mulder and Scully in
the series finale.  Script format.

Note: This is predicated on Mulder being there prior to the last
scene, since I  hope that they can get David Duchovny back for
more than a cameo.  


EVENING

Mulder, sitting on the couch in Scully's living room.  Very similar to
the scene from "Small Potatoes."  William is in his bassinet, which is
placed next to the couch at the end where Mulder is sitting.  There
is a bottle of wine on the coffee table and two wine glasses.  There
are candles lighted on the table, too.  Scully enters from behind the
couch and pauses a bit to take the scene before her in.  She
likes what she sees, but is still taken by surprise at the reality of
it all.  She sits down next to Mulder.


SCULLY

So, what's the occasion?  (Looking at the wine and candles.)


MULDER

Well, seeing as it's the end, and all, I thought....


SCULLY

The end, of what Mulder?


MULDER

Well, uh...The first part?  Us, Scully.  The end of the first part of us.


SCULLY

Nine years is a long first part, Mulder.   (Mulder pours wine into
the glasses, picks them up and hands one to Scully.  She smiles. 
They touch their glasses together in a silent toast, and then each
take a sip.)


MULDER

Did it seem long to you, Scully?  It didn't to me.  (William is heard
crying from the bassinet.  Mulder sets his glass down and gets up
and takes him from his bassinet, returning to his spot on the couch. 
He rocks William a few seconds, and the crying subsides.)


SCULLY

(Looking at the two of them with pure love in her eyes.)  No.  It
didn't seem long.  I suppose you could say it flew, when it wasn't
disappearing. 


MULDER

(Grinning) Why, Scully, are you positing that time can disappear? 


SCULLY

Possibly.


MULDER

William, you're a witness.  


SCULLY

Mulder, he's asleep.


MULDER

Doesn't matter; I believe he heard you.  (Mulder gets up and puts
William back into the bassinet.  Music is playing now in the
background.  Mulder returns to the couch and sits down next to
Scully.)


MULDER

Funny, the things that have come to be, that once, I never would
have believed.


SCULLY

There was definitely a time that I thought we'd never be here.


MULDER

But we are. (He leans in closer to Scully's face.)


SCULLY

Yes.  (They are looking at each other now, the same way they had
so long ago in the hallway.  Mulder leans down and kisses Scully
on the lips.  She kisses him back, and they continue, passionately,
for a few seconds.  They finally break, and Mulder stands up.  He
extends his hand to Scully.  She rises from the couch and takes it
and is now in his arms.  The scene is reminiscent of their dance
from "Post- Modern Prometheus," except for they are really
slow dancing as opposed to the slow-motion dancing from
that episode.  The camera pulls back and the scene fades to black.)


(The sound of someone knocking on a door.)


MULDER VOICEOVER

Sorry, nobody down here but the FBI's most unwanted. 


SCULLY VOICEOVER

Agent Mulder.  I'm Dana Scully, I've been assigned to work with
you. 


MUSIC

The first six notes of The X-Files Theme.
