Going Lunar--Part 4 by Lolabeegood E-mail: lolabeegood@gmail.com Distribution: Archive freely with my name attached Rating: PG Categories: S, R Keywords: Mulder/Scully UST, Post Ep Spoilers: Everything up to and including Max Summary: An apology of a different sort. Author's Notes: Just a little scene that has been working itself out in my head and I thought I'd put to paper. You might want to read the first 3 parts to see where I'm going with this one, but it still works on its own. I do not own the characters. I do not make any money from this. Enjoy! ************************************* "I actually was thinking about, uh...this gift that you gave me for my birthday. You never got to tell me why you gave it to me or what it means... but I think I know. I think that you appreciate that there are extraordinary men and women and... extraordinary moments when history leaps forward on the backs of these individuals... that what can be imagined can be achieved... that you must dare to dream... but that there's no substitute for perseverance and hard work... and teamwork... because no one gets there alone... and that, while we commemorate the... the greatness of these events and the individuals who achieve them, we cannot forget the sacrifice of those who make these achievements and leaps possible." She sighs at the end of her speech. "I just thought it was a pretty cool keychain." He counters She chuckles at his joke and joins him as they walk off into the night together. Instead of bee-lining it to the car and making a quick exit they decide to go for a stroll, something they rarely do on a case. "Really, Mulder...did you buy it because it was cool?" she asks as they walk up the side of a dirt road. "It's not cool?" he says in mock upset. She bangs her shoulder against him, urging him to answer honestly. "Well, besides being the coolest gift..." he pauses for affect "it also made me think of all of the star gazing and moon watching we've been doing this past year." "That we have," she smiles to herself. "It made me think about how anything is possible and nothing is insurmountable." "In terms of?' she asks the question that she could only ask in the dark. "Us." He says as he takes her hand. They walk hand in hand in silence for several minutes. She loves the feel of his soft skin holding her and would love nothing more than to lean into his frame and feel his body close to hers as well. She stops suddenly as her eyes catch the sliver of the moon in the sky. He holds his position next to her and waits for an explanation. He looks down at her, at her eyes glittering in the moonlight and the smile that's creeping across her face. He decides that there is no time like the present. Leaning towards her frame he is mere inches from her lips. She turns her head slightly to acknowledge him, and the gleam in her eyes tells him he's welcome to come in for landing. His body twists slightly to get a better angle when suddenly they are alit with headlights on them. A noisy exhaust-fume spewing pickup truck makes it's ways towards them as Mulder pulls back and Scully suddenly becomes interested in the dirt at her feet. The truck kicks up dirt as it drives and Mulder stands in front of Scully to shield her from as much dust as possible. After the truck passes and they are blanketed in darkness again, the moment is lost. He watches as she sweeps dust off her top and looks in the direction their car is. "Ready to go home?" he asks as he extends his hand to her. She takes his hand and smiles at him. He twines his fingers in hers and glances back up at the moon as they walk. "Is it waning?" he asks. She looks up at the night sky with him. "No, it's waxing. It's maturing, not fading." "I like that." He says as they stroll back to the car. ****************************** The end of part 4
