Going Lunar--Part 5 by Lolabeegood E-mail: lolabeegood@gmail.com Distribution: Archive freely with my name attached Rating: PG Categories: V, R Keywords: Mulder/Scully UST, Missing Scene, Post-Ep Spoilers: Everything up to and including Emily Summary: The night sky gives them some solace. Author's Notes: Just a little scene that has been working itself out in my head and I thought I'd put to paper. You might want to read the first 4 parts to see where I'm going with this one, but it still works on its own. I do not own the characters. I do not make any money from this. Enjoy! ************************************* Scully was supposed to bury her daughter today. After discovering only sand in her coffin, she wanted answers. Answers from the funeral home, the coroner and everyone who may have come in contact with Emily's body. For once, I was the calm one who had to remove her from people's offices as she yelled and threatened officials. It was not a good feeling. We didn't go back to her brothers. They had been wondering where we were all day, and when I thought to call, her mother was frantic. Apparently Scully had turned off her phone, which, in retrospect didn't surprise me. We're at the side of a road and she's sitting in the car talking to her mother on my phone. I know she's crying because I can hear her pained voice through the open window. I'm sitting on a railing at the top of a panoramic California cliff watching the stars tonight and hoping we can get some answers. The sky is full of stars and the moon is a tiny crescent in the corner of the sky, not wanting to intrude on the star spectacular. I know that, wherever her body it, that Emily is at peace. I think Scully knows that too, but right now she wants answers and no one is willing to supply them. The coroner swears he performed an autopsy on Emily, but all records are mysteriously missing. He seems as dumbfounded and upset by it as Scully. The funeral home swears her body was embalmed and the makeup artist says she worked on Emily so her skin wouldn't look so 'green'. Her word choice was not lost on Scully or myself. Both funeral home employees apologized profusely and the police have issued an alert to all funeral homes to be on the look-out for a death fetishist. That's a term Scully really didn't need to hear today. I hear the door to the car open and close and her footfalls as she approaches. "Thanks," she says as she hands me the phone over my shoulder. "Is everything okay with your mom?" I ask cautiously as I place the phone in my pocket. "She wants us to come back to Bill's but I explained that we are an hour away right now and..." "Scully, I'm fine to drive back if you want to." I say turning to look at her over my shoulder in the dark. "I don't know...I don't know," she mutters as she rests her cheek across my back and wraps and arm around my chest. "You decide when your ready," I say slowly, realizing in this position I can offer her no comfort beyond my hunched back. I turn back towards the ocean to give her as much expanse to work with. I sit in silence while she stands behind me breathing into my back. We don't move for quite some time and I start to wonder if her legs are getting tired from standing for so long in the same position. I feel her head move behind me and her chin dig into my back a little. She's looking at the sky over my shoulder. "There's nothing more we can do tonight." I say softly, knowing she does not want to hear that. "I know," she sighs as I feel her warm breath on the back of my neck. Just then a star shoots quickly across the night sky. "Oh," she says surprised as she watches it. "Make a wish" I whisper to only her. I feel her arm tighten around my frame and I know her wish without words. She wishes Emily peace. ****************************************** The end of part 5
