Renewed Beginning by Agent_410 Email: box9missingno@hotmail.com Rating: PG-13 Genre: X-Files Revival; possible AU Summary: Scully decides to go back to her life as it once was. She looked down at her watch, pacing back and forth, wondering if it was worth leaving him. When they split, it was amicable enough. It was for safety, he told her. So he could find their son and find out why they took him, without drawing them to her and going after her. He'd stressed her out enough he said to her as well. He wanted her to be able to move on and to live her life. She'd let him know that she didn't want to leave, that she wanted to help him in this fight, even though he seemed to be getting more and more obsessed by the day. He said it wasn't worth putting her life at risk, let alone both of theirs. That the stakes we're just too high. So off she went, found a place quickly enough, set down some roots. Her mom let her know of a family friend, once she found out that she wasn't going with Mulder anymore. She didn't want her daughter to be alone. She placated her, went out on some dates. But they were a disaster right from the start. Sure he was attractive, but he just seemed smarmy. Charming, yes. But not in the way that other men she'd dated before Mulder were. It was a different kind of charm, a superficial one. And one that she didn't want to be around again. She was planning on letting him down easy if he ever tried to get back together with her. She had no interest. Her mind was set on getting back in contact with Mulder again, aside from the occasional phone call and late night visit. She wanted him back in her life again, full time, both professionally and otherwise. She knew it would be a huge risk, but one that was worth taking. Any outside interference be damned. She was willing to take this step and was more than willing to fully go back into the darkness. To go back to that which was familiar and about as safe as she ever felt in her life. She took her phone out of her pocket and called him up. She was hoping he'd be home so she could get things out while they were still fresh in her mind. Always a different phone though, since it was far too easy to be tracked and traced. 'Better to be safe than sorry', she thought to herself. Both her and Mulder thought it was the best way to go about keeping things safe and sound while still maintaining contact. Her mind drifted off to thinking about their son, as the phone rang. Mulder answered, his voice a question mark as always. She let him know about the situation and that Tad was out of her life for good and that he was someone to not trust. Mulder kept on going on and on about how he thinks that he knows something about the conspiracy. Listening patiently to him was one of her strong suits, but the way he's been the past few years was one of the reasons why she ended up leaving, even though she still loved him and wished she could have stayed. For her own safety and for his. But... she was more than willing to try to help him through it and to get back to where things were. She let him know that most of what Tad said was hot air, and that to trust him would be putting his own reputation on the line. But Mulder continued to be steadfast in his belief that Sveta was part of the key to what the syndicate was up to and that she had alien blood in her. She sighed a little and let him know that she'll be over to continue the conversation. He said that he loved her and thanked her for letting him have her ear. She hung up the phone and walked out of her condo, locked the door behind her and headed out to her car. At least this week, Mulder didn't hang up on her, leaving her angry and frustrated. She knew that he didn't have all that much in his life to believe in and that a lot has left him burnt. So any hanging up was somewhat justified. But it didn't make her feel any less ill at ease. Wanting to hold him and help him was only a small way she thought she could continue to help him heal, to help him move forward. Being a doctor to him wasn't going to help, it only made things worse. She could see him withdrawing and becoming more and more a recluse. In spite of any 'searching' he'd done for their son, it wasn't helping him in regards to dealing with others in the outside world. Sure he did ok in an online setting. He had his own 'anonymous' identity on there and didn't have to leave the safety of his own home that often. As she drove over to his small place (the house that they once lived in, now served as his base to talk to those whom he thought might have info about their son), so many thoughts were circling her head. Hitting one another time and again with the frequency of lightning. Once she got there, she went up the walk way and knocked on his door. He answered and gave her a small smile. She knew that smile well. It was one she'd seen many times before. One that helped to bring a little bit of happiness into her own life, that helped to brighten it. But right now it just seemed to make her feel like she hadn't done her best for him. He looked at her and let her know that she had nothing to be worried about, that he was working on trying to figure out the connection between Sveta and her, and that their connections were really similar. She kissed him and let him know that she appreciated all of the hard work that he was doing, but let him know that she just didn't want him to get in over his head with it. He shook his head and let her know that he'd been working on doing that and that in spite of how he'd acted on the phone recently, he still loved her and cared about her, and that his reasons for doing so were valid. He said that he'd been in contact with some people who were aware of the syndicate and their actions. She asked him if he was absolutely sure, and was worried if he might have gotten in over his head. He shook his head no and let her know that their absolute safety was paramount and that he took precautions to keep himself and herself safe from harm. She looked around his place, she'd been there before then, but it was still full of boxes. He had finally slowed down enough to finish with unpacking his belongings. It was full of memories, both of the time before her and of it with her. He had not forgotten her. 'Do you want to sit down, Scully?', he asked her with a grin. 'Sure. I'm wondering if you mind if I stayed the night, Mulder?', she asked him, a small smile coming onto her face. 'You never have to ask. We've known each other long enough to be able to do that kind of thing without even having to say a word.', he said back to her. He turned on the tv and asked her if there was anything that she wanted to watch. She asked him if he had any premium channels. She had gotten hooked on some of the more adult entertainment lately. He looked at her and laughed. He wondered to himself, 'Is this really the same Scully I've known after all these years?' She always judged me when I watched those kinds of shows. Good to see that she's broadened her horizons. Getting a tattoo aside, she was rather strict in this area. Not entirely, but this new enthusiasm for this form of entertainment was a surprise. He turned to HBO and they started watching some Game of Thrones. It was getting late and she looked over at him and smiled. They'd talk things over some more tomorrow, but for now she was happy to be back home with him. She wanted to mention to him that he was welcome to stay at her place too if he wanted. There was more than enough room and he was always welcome. He looked back at her and kissed her, she responded eagerly and then he picked her up and took her back to his bedroom and closed the door. ~ The end... for now Feel free to let me know if there's anything I need to change. I welcome any constructive criticism. Enjoy! :) Author's Notes: Gee thanks Chris, for that WONDERFUL TCA clip, now off to edit my fic. Liked it better before Mulder seemly goes off the deep end. Notes I used to help with writing the fic: * Scully calls Mulder letting him know that going with Tad was a big mistake and that she regrets it. * Before she does so, she sits down and thinks about whether separating from Mulder was really worth it, and that going with Tad was worth doing, to see if she could move on. * She finds out that he was nothing but a selfish, narcissistic man who's idea of truth was in finding another way of making a cheap dollar. Usually by means that involve manipulating the public. Not exactly a redeeming trait in anyone's, let alone hers. * She doesn't know why she was even attracted to him. Her mom introduced her to him. And she went out with him just so she'd back off. His sense of humor wasn't even that good, but there had to be something. Maybe that charm? But even that turned out to be fake, just another part of his facade. * Mulder wasn't perfect, but at least he was someone she could count on, in spite of his flaws. Some one who didn't put up with bull shit. Heck he was some one who'd more than put Tad in his place if need be. * She'd kept in contact with Mulder occasionally, when she can, to see if he's found out anything more about the conspiracy and their son. His views have shifted over the years to more worldly views about it. Away from the UFO's and the skies. Now he thinks of more shady reasons why their son would be taken from them. That it's not so much about the aliens as it is why the Syndicate wanted him in the first place. His blood held the secret which they so long seeked. * To help the aliens and to continue the colonization. But what they didn't know is that Scully was aware of the fact that her and Mulder's son was free of that curse, that the magnetite vaccine made it so his blood was normal again, and that he was about as human as he could ever be. * But it put them into great danger, the more he found out, and it was in part why they split, aside from the stress. It was something she'd thought about every day. She knew it was for safety. And she only contacted him through throw away cell phones, a different number each time. As a way to make sure he'd stay safe along with her.
