Author's Notes: This is part of my 'Day' series of stories. It can be read independent of all the others as they are only loosely linked. Enjoy! I do not own the characters. ************************************* Fox Mulder stood at the edge of their pond and scowled. He thought that flooding the surface would make for smooth skating but the crazy winds that had been whipping across the fields had created a wave-like texture across the top. There would be no skating on the pond this winter. "Fuck," he said as he kicked some snow for good measure and turned back towards the house. Scully had picked up second hand skates for them in anticipation of this year's skating and, when she got home, he would have to tell her they would not get used. 'Unless...' he thought as he tromped through the snow. "Scully would never go for it," he muttered to himself. The more he pounded through the snow, the more he became convinced he could get this to work. He noticed her car in the driveway and climbed the stairs to the back door. "Honey, I'm home!" he called out in his cheesiest voice. "Upstairs!" she called back. He took off his snowy boots and threw his coat over the back of a kitchen chair before he mounted the stairs to their bedroom. Mulder found her about to unzip her skirt as he walked in the room. "Allow me," he said into her ear as he took the zipper from her grasp. "Thanks," she smiled back at him as he carefully undid her skirt and ran his hands over her hips as he allowed the garment to fall to the floor. She stepped from the pile and bent down to pick it up. Her ass rubbing up against his crotch as she bent over. He smiled at the contact and held her hips more firmly as she rose back to a standing position. "I have an idea about the skating," he ventured. "Is the pond frozen?" "It is, but, it's not exactly smooth." Mulder admitted. "We can't skate on it." He watched her shoulders slump. She was looking forward to skating as much as he was. "There's an outdoor rink in town, right?" "Mulder, you can't..." "Hear me out," he said as he swivelled her to face him. "With a toque and some glasses and a scarf, no one would recog..." "Mulder, you can't." She said as she placed her open palms on his chest. "But..." "You can't." She said more firmly. "You can," he said softly. "I can't without you." She said as she smiled up at him. "But you really wanted to." "I did, but..." she stopped and smiled to herself for a moment. "What?" he asked. She reached for his shirt laying across their bed and pulled it over her head. It fell to just above her knees and she reached in a drawer to pull out a pair of socks. "Don't come down until I call you," she said as she kissed his lips and ran past him. "Okay, but..." She was out of the room before he could finish his question. Mulder watched her scurry down the stairs and out of sight. She was up to something, he just wasn't sure what. Ten minutes later she called him "Mulder!" He trotted down the stairs and was astonished with what he found. All the furniture was pushed to the sides of the living room, the carpet was rolled up, and Christmas music was playing softly on the stereo. Scully stood in the middle, wearing his ridiculously large shirt and a pair of floppy wool socks on her feet. "What's this?" he asked as he got to the landing at the bottom. "We'll go," she started as she slid across the wood floor in her socks, "skating." "You're nuts, you know that, right?" he smiled at her. "Maybe," she laughed as she took his hand. She pulled him along the wood floor as he slid next to her. "Skating, huh?" he laughed. "Skating," she confirmed as she did a spin. "I did take figure skating for a while...I might be able to show you a sit spin." "I think I've already seen you do that," he leered at her and grabbed her waist. She smirked up at him, un-amused by his crude comment. "How about we skate-dance?" he asked her. "Mulder, usually that is done side by side," she said smiling up at him. "Humour me," he smiled at her and pulled her close. They slowly danced on the bare floor and later, Scully showed him some of her best moves. *************************************** the end.
