--------------------------------------The couple stood in the shadows, near a dingy brick wall, feeling a bit self-conscious in their formal evening clothes.
He squinted at his watch. 9:15pm, Saturday, September 18th, 1999. They had been told their subject would be in this place on this date, at this time. So where was he?
She elbowed him in the ribs and hooked her finger at him. He lowered his ear near her mouth.
"What are we doing here tonight, Mulder?"
"Listening to Rachmaninoff's Symphony in E minor?" he whispered back, letting his lips brush her earlobe.
She pressed one foot down hard on his toes, forcing him to bite his lip to keep from crying out.
They heard footsteps approaching and straightened up, putting on passive facial expressions.
The stranger smiled and nodded at them in silent greeting, gave Scully an appreciative once-over and winked at Mulder.
Mulder moved Scully further into the shadows.
"Did you see that, Mulder?" Scully whispered indignantly.
"Yeeesss, I did!" He smiled lasciviously. "Wanna take him up on his suggestion?" He pressed himself against her as the music swelled onstage.
She started to protest, but found herself humming along with the music as Mulder's mouth covered hers.
Hands moved over bodies, clothes were surreptitiously pushed just far enough out of the way, flesh made contact with flesh, the music grew louder.
"Scully, Scully, it's the climax!" Mulder whispered fiercely in her ear.
"Already, Mulder?!" she rasped into his shoulder, a hint of disappointment in her voice.
"The symphony, Scully! The climax of the symphony!" He redoubled his efforts as she sighed in exasperation and pleasure.
Onstage, the music crashed and soared, the musicians and audience oblivious to the moans of pleasure in the shadows.
* * * * *
The audience applauded loudly, rising to their feet.
Mulder smiled at Scully. "I guess it was good for them, too."
